Marla's Poem

A Poem by Marla Stumpff

written for Mother's Day when she was 15

Many years have gone by, and I’m
still without a clue…

As to why I hold back my feelings
and don’t confide in you.

I don’t do it on purpose, please
understand…

I just always thought I could
manage without your helping hand.

But now I see what stupidity
I have displayed…

And what a huge mistake
I have already made.

But you look past them and
Accept my mistakes

And always seem to do whatever
it takes.

And now that I’ve dug the hugest hole of all…
You still hold on, and just won’t let me fall.

And as much as it may be hard to believe,
but its true…
I really do care, love, and thank you.

Marla's friend, Glenn Pardo, wrote this for her funeral service

When I met Marla she was only 17. We were roommates twice and friends for many years. We used to joke that she was the female version of me, just as stubborn too. She's the only girl who ever punched me in the face, yet I wasn’t angry we just laughed about it. She was the life of the party and it wasn’t a Saturday night without Marla. She believed in loyalty and honesty to a friend more than anyone I've ever known. Whether you had known her a couple of months or your whole life you knew that Marla had a big heart. I know that you would have been a lifelong friend and I will always miss you. We love you Marla.

In honor of my beloved daughter
A POEM BY e.e. cummings

I carry your heart with me
(i carry it in my heart) I am never without it(anywhere
I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

I fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world
(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart.
I carry your heart (i carry it in my heart).
